Warner Bros announced that its next films for 2021 will simultaneously be released in cinemas and streamed through HBO Max in the United States at the same time.
The movie giant recently revealed that it will release Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max on Christmas Day for one month, in addition to releasing it in cinemas – in areas where it is open.
Warner Bros. Now she plans to do the same for all of her 2021 titles, which include Space Jam: A New Legacy, Dune, The Suicide Squad, and Matrix 4.
According to Collider, all new flicks will be available in 4K Ultra HD and HDR while playing HBO Max.
The 2021 movies will appear on HBO Max for one month, after which time they will be removed from the streaming device – but still shown in theaters.
They would then have a DVD / Blu -ray release before returning to HBO Max.
Ann Sarnoff, president of Warner Bros., said in a statement that the decision was taken in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Sarnoff, President, and CEO of WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group said: “We live in unprecedented times that demand creative solutions, including this new initiative by Warner Bros. Pictures Group.
“Nobody wants to be remastered on the big screen than we do. We know that new content is the lifeblood of a theatrical show, but we have to balance this with the fact that most theaters in the United States will likely run at reduced capacity throughout 2021.
“Through this unique one-year plan, we can support our exhibition partners with a steady portfolio of world-class films, while giving moviegoers who may not be able to reach theaters or are not fully ready to return to the cinema a chance to see our great films for 2021…
“We consider it a win-win for all movie lovers and modelers, and we are extremely grateful to our filmmaking partners for working with us on such an innovative response to these conditions.”
Toby Emrich, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group: “This hybrid exhibition model allows us to best support our films, creative partners, and movie-goers in general throughout 2021.
“We have an impressive and extensive list of titles from talented and futuristic filmmakers, and we are excited to be able to bring these films to audiences all over the world.
“As always, we will support all of our releases with innovative and powerful marketing campaigns for their theatrical debut, highlighting this unique opportunity to watch our films locally via HBO Max as well.”
