Thwarting an attempt to poison US President Donald Trump

CNN reported that White House law enforcement authorities intercepted a parcel containing the toxin ricin intended for President Donald Trump earlier this week, according to two law enforcement officials.

According to the network, two tests were conducted to confirm the presence of ricin. And all of the White House mail was sorted and checked at an off-site facility before reaching the White House.

The US network said that the FBI and the Secret Service are continuing to investigate the matter.

Ricin is a highly toxic compound extracted from castor beans that have been used in terror plots.

It can be used in powder, granule, mist, or acid form. If swallowed, it causes nausea, vomiting, and internal bleeding in the stomach and intestines, followed by failure of the liver, spleen, and kidneys, and death by a collapse of the blood circulation.
