A gunman shot at an open-air concert on the stairs of St. John’s Cathedral in the Manhattan district of New York City, on Sunday.
The shooting came during a scheduled free display of Christmas carols on the steps of the historic church next to the cathedral choir, according to the New York Post.
According to Reuters, the police exchanged fire with the gunman, who opened fire.
“ABC News” reported that the suspect shot the police officers when they arrived at the scene, and the police fired back, wounding the gunman.

A spokesman for the New York City Police Department, Sgt. Edward Riley, said the gunman shot the police. Noting that no officer was hurt.
