Former White House chief of staff and current special envoy to Northern Ireland, Mick Mulvaney, has announced his resignation, in protest at supporters of President Donald Trump’s storming of Congress.
“I called (US Secretary of State) Mike Pompeo last night to tell him that I am quitting from that. I can’t do that, I can’t stay,” Mulvaney told CNBC in an interview Thursday morning.
He added, “Those who choose to stay, and I have spoken with some of them, are choosing to stay because they are worried that the president might put someone worse off.”
Mulvaney’s resignation came after at least two Trump loyalists resigned from their posts in the White House.
