On November 11th, Sotheby’s in Geneva is expected to display an exceptional whole-sized pink stone, which is part of the largest pink diamond ever discovered in Russia, with an estimated price of between 23 and 38 million dollars.
Dubbed “The Spirit of the Rose” after a famous ballet group, this diamond in its category (bright purple-pink) is the largest piece ever offered at auction.
This oval-shaped diamond is 1.7 cm long and 1.27 cm wide.
The original diamond, from which this diamond is a piece, was discovered in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in Northeast Siberia in 2017 by the Russian “Alrosa” group and it took a year of meticulous work to cut it and give it its oval shape while preserving its brilliant color, according to the sales manager at the house Benoit Rebelin.
The price is also amazing, and it is estimated at between 23 and 38 million dollars. It means that the price of a carat is $ 2.56 million, which is very close to the record price of $ 2.6 million per carat that it recorded two years ago in Geneva “Pink Legacy”.
Pink diamonds are the rarest and most in-demand in the world market.
The CTF Star Pink still holds the record for the most expensive pink diamond ever sold at auction, and it was sold for $ 71.2 million in 2017 in Hong Kong.
The sale of this diamond comes a few days after the closure of the world’s largest pink diamond mine, which is located in Australia.
This closure will affect the price and desire to own pink diamonds, according to Sotheby’s.
