French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with “ Jeune Afrique” magazine that he would do “everything possible” to help the “courageous” President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, with the aim of “making the transition process a success” in Algeria.
He added in the lengthy interview published on Friday that “Africa cannot succeed unless Algeria succeeds,” stressing the “equitable relationship” and the “real partnership” that France has been seeking to establish with the African continent since he came to power in 2017, by lifting “taboos.” At the level of “memory, economy, culture, and enterprise.”
He made it clear that dealing with the memory crisis with Algeria is by embodying reconciliation, and not by offering an apology for the crimes of the colonial era.
“As for me, I want to be with truth and reconciliation, and President Tebboune has confirmed his will to do something similar.”
