A Japanese woman hid her mother’s corpse for ten years in a refrigerator under the pretext of fear of being evicted from the apartment where she lives in the event of discovering the death, according to what the local press reported on Saturday.
Police reported that Yumi Yoshino, 48, was arrested on suspicion of “hiding the body of a woman”, which was found Wednesday in a refrigerator in an apartment in the Japanese capital, Tokyo.
The defendant said that she had been hiding the body for ten years because she “did not want to move” from the apartment in which she lived with her mother, according to information reported by the local press, citing police sources.
The rental contract for the apartment in a Tokyo building was in the name of the mother, who died at an estimated age of 60, according to Kyodo News.
Yoshino was forced to leave the apartment in mid-January due to frequent delays in paying the rent, and the body was discovered by a person who came to clean the apartment.
The body was subjected to an autopsy, without specifying the cause of death and the date of its occurrence, according to the press.
