Facebook announced that it had contacted the FBI “proactively” to investigate a militia plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.
The FBI confirmed that it had thwarted “a plot to overthrow the governor of Michigan, which included communicating with militia members in Michigan.”
“Reuters” agency quoted Whitmer as saying that she thanked the law-enforcement
forces who had arrested “sick men” who were “preparing to kidnap and possibly kill me.”
Prosecutors said Thursday that authorities have arrested 13 defendants, including seven men linked to the “Wolverine Watch” armed group, in connection with possible plots to kidnap the Michigan governor and attack the state Congress.
According to a testimony issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation today, Thursday, the group conspired to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat and was a constant target of criticism of Republican President Donald Trump ahead of the November 3 presidential election.
