British Health Minister Matt Hancock announced today, Wednesday, that his country detected another new strain of Coronavirus, less than a week after announcing a strain that had worsened infections.
The minister stated in a press statement: “We detected two cases infected with another new strain of Coronavirus here in the United Kingdom,” according to “Reuters” agency.
He added that they were in close contact with cases that came from the Republic of South Africa during the past few weeks. The African country had already announced days ago an outbreak of a new strain of the virus, which caused a rise in infections.
He continued, “This new strain raises great concern because it is more transmissible and appears to have undergone a greater transformation than the new strain (the first – announced days ago) that was discovered in the United Kingdom.”
