Thursday morning, the English newspapers reported that the Welsh star was close to moving from Real Madrid to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Mirror newspaper headlined: “The return of the prodigal son to Tottenham is very close … the Spurs will pay 250,000 pounds of his wages with Real Madrid in a huge deal .. Jose considers Gareth the last piece in his team’s puzzle.”
The Welsh international scored 105 goals and provided 68 assists in 251 matches for the Spanish capital club, winning the European Champions League four times and winning the domestic league twice.
However, Bale, who played 85 international matches, suffered repeated injuries during his early years in Madrid, before finding himself on the bench in recent years as Zinedine Zidane took over the coaching duties.
And if he moves to Tottenham, Bale will play under the supervision of Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, noting that the latter stated on Wednesday that he sought to sign a contract with the Welshman during his supervision of Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013.
Mourinho said, “I tried to sign him during my time with Real Madrid and the president (Florentino Perez) followed my instinct and knowledge, and in the year I left he brought Gareth to the club,” adding, “This is no secret and Gareth knows that.”
Tottenham, who started the Premier League with a defeat at home to Everton, is close to signing the left-back of Real Sergio Region for about 30 million euros.
