Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley announced the security of the boxes containing the electoral college vote cards, before the Senate hall in the Capitol was stormed.
In a tweet, Merkley wrote: “The Electoral College votes were rescued from the Senate hall.”
“Had it not been rescued by our distinguished people, it would have been burned in the chaos,” he added.
