More than 1,000 years in prison for a Turkish "preacher" convicted of sexual crimes

A Turkish preacher on Monday convicted a Turkish preacher who used to broadcast television programs among women in sexy clothes and sentenced them to more than a thousand years in prison for committing sexual crimes, according to local media.

Adnan Oktar offered conservative religious views while women he called “his cats,” many of whom underwent plastic surgeries, danced around him in the television studio.

The 64-year-old was arrested in June 2018 as part of a crackdown targeting his group by the Financial Crimes Unit of Istanbul Police.

The private NTV station reported that he was sentenced to 1,075 years in prison for crimes that include sexual assault, sexual exploitation of minors, fraud and attempted political and military espionage.

The official Anadolu news agency stated that about 236 suspects are under trial in the case, 78 of whom are under arrest.

The hearings contained scandalous details and horrific allegations of sexual crimes.

Oktar told the chief justice in December that he had nearly 1,000 girlfriends.

“There is an overflow of love in my heart for a woman,” he said at another hearing in October. “Love is a human quality. It is one of the characteristics of a Muslim.”

“I am unusually strong,” he added on another occasion.
